For years now, my fiancé and I have rejected the usual material gifts exchanged between partners, like scents, flowers and novelty gadgets. Instead, we prefer gifts that indulge our shared love of travel.
We never gift each other entire trips – we’re not THAT into such grand gestures and I definitely can’t afford to foot the bill for an entire trip for two – but we do often try to surprise each other by booking a night in a fancy hotel, or secretly arranging an experience we can enjoy together on a holiday we already have planned.
It means we don’t waste money on frivolous birthday, Christmas and Valentines gifts and instead use these occasions as an excuse to make our travel plans extra special.
If you’ve got a holiday coming up with your other half, an easy way to make it that little bit more special is to arrange something you can both look forward to doing on that trip.
I’ve teamed up with Tinggly to show you how you can easily gift each other travel themed Valentines Day gift experiences. They’ve kindly offered my readers £10 (or 10 Euros) off gift boxes until 16th February using the code Dannielle.
How Tinggly works
If you’ve got a trip booked, use the Experiences Map to check out which experiences are available in your destination, then select the box that allows your partner to book that experience.
Of course, if far-flung destinations aren’t on the cards for the two of you, there are plenty of UK based tours and activities that you can choose to enjoy on a couples’ day out closer to home!
You simply choose the box that will most appeal to your loved one and it’s delivered via DHL in 2-3 working days, complete with your personalised message – this is where you can drop the bomb on them that your next trip together is about to get even better!
They can check out all of the experiences available in over 100 countries through that box and book the one that most excites them. Pouring over all of the available experiences together is bound to create excitement.
One major perk is that there’s no expiration date on Tinggly boxes. I know when someone gives me a gift voucher, I get a bit of anxiety about accidentally missing my deadline to spend the money they’ve so kindly gifted me!
The company also donates part of its profits to sustainable projects to remove polluting plastics from the environment, offsets CO2 carbon emissions AND all Tinggly gift boxes are made from recycled materials. The eco-friendliness of this gift is a definite pro for us!
Travel gift boxes you can buy for Valentines Day
There’s a huge variety of travel themed gifts available via Tinggly. I’ve compiled some of the best gift box options for Valentines Day.
Be My Valentine
This box has a range of experiences that can be enjoyed by both of you, from a luxury yacht cruise in Tenerife to a day learning how to make pizza and gelato together in Florence. Whichever romantic activity you choose, it’s guaranteed to bring the two of you closer.
Time Together
The Time Together box has over 450 experiences for couples just looking to enjoy some quality time with each other. The experiences are as low-key as horse riding along a local beach or spending the day at Harry Potter World (Tom and I quite fancy this one!), and there are also high-energy options like kayaking in New Zealand or going on a romantic date in Orlando’s Botanical Gardens.
Perfect For Him / Perfect For Her
These boxes dedicated to travel experiences for either women or men are great for couples who love travelling together, but who also have a love affair with solo travel. He can choose from adrenaline activities like mountain biking down the world’s most dangerous road in Bolivia or a brewery tour in Baltimore. Let him do his thing! Girls who travel solo might like to book themselves a relaxing day at a spa in Bali or a street food tour in Kuala Lumpur.
Minibreak For Two
If you don’t have any trips booked, this Minibreak gift box will help you change that! You can choose from over 2000 handpicked hotels in 100+ countries so you can enjoy a romantic break exploring a destination that’s been on your shared bucket list for a while. If you need some inspiration for places to visit, check out my UK destination guides.
I think the concept of gifting each other travel experiences is way better than anything that comes wrapped in a bow, and this way your partner still has something to open on Valentines Day. I’ve written about experience based gifts for women who travel before so I was really pleased to discover Tinggly, particularly as this gift-giving option also lets you do your bit for the environment together.
I’ve got my eye on their ‘Think You Know New York’ box for our trip there in April!
