Mum was visiting over the long weekend so I decided to treat her to a mini-break in Mallorca when I found cheap flights to Palma on Skyscanner. The original plan was to stay in the centre of Palma and explore the destination, but then I was offered a press stay at OD Port Portals hotel in the swanky Portals Nous area of Mallorca. We swapped our city break for a few days chilling by the pool at our little oasis.
My review of Hotel OD Port Portals
Location
The hotel is just 20 minutes drive from Palma airport and you can walk to the luxurious yacht harbour in under ten minutes. The harbour area’s bars and restaurants were a bit too pretentious for us if I’m being 100% honest (and this is coming from a girl who spent 14 months swanning around Dubai), and there wasn’t much else within walking distance of the hotel aside from a few family attractions and a dodgy looking MarineLand.
Fortunately for us, the lack of local attractions meant we didn’t feel guilty for just lolling around the pool for three days! I’m normally quite an adventurous traveller but I really relished the downtime with mum on this trip.
Design and facilities
The hotel exterior looked slightly dated as we approached and I had a quiet moment of panic but up close, the interior design is ultra sleek and very contemporary. OD Port Portals was only recently constructed. Everything was spotless and the layout works really well, with the exterior flowing into the open-plan ground floor.
There’s a bar, restaurant and seating area. Outside, there’s a soft seating area with pebble fire-pits and a good sized pool with bali beds. There’s also a leafy, more private area sectioned off from the main poolside beds, with a few bali beds in the shade.
OD Port Portals hotel room review
Our Deluxe Double room with a balcony was bright and spacious enough that we never felt on top of each other while we were getting ready at the double sinks. It was kept flawless throughout our trip. Deluxe rooms provide guests with white bathrobes, slippers, ginger scented toiletries and a minibar (not free). Our favourite feature was that the shower room was separate from the open-plan bathroom and had a window cut into the corner so you could shower with a sea view.
It could get a bit noisy when people came home from the bars in the early hours of the morning – sound travels between the rooms, so that’s something to be aware of if you’re booking OD Port Portals for a relaxing break. There are only 77 rooms at the hotel, so it never feels crowded.
Food, drink and service
Another thing we really loved about OD Port Portals was the breakfast spread. Breakfast is served from 8am until 12pm so you could effectively graze on continental treats all morning. We’d order eggs from the menu with avocado and smoked salmon, then help ourselves to assorted jamon, cheeses, fresh bread, yogurts and fruit. The breakfast staff were seriously on the ball, replenishing every item as soon as guests had laid their plate on their table. My opinion of any hotel always hinges on the breakfast offering, and we were impressed by the options at OD Port Portals.
The hotel hosts various events, including a weekend brunch with live entertainment. We didn’t bother with food but loved lounging at the pool while a saxophonist provided a soundtrack for the day!
The drinks prices at the hotel were on the higher end of the scale – it was 12 Euros for a cocktail – but they were always beautifully presented and use premium spirits. Sadly, our visit was just a few days before the opening of the hotel’s OD Sky Bar, which I’m sure will be super chic.
There was also ‘Wine, Cheese and Wi-Fi’ at the ground floor bar from 6pm until 8pm. During these hours, hotel guests at OD Port Portals can enjoy a complimentary glass of wine, beer or a soft drink accompanied by a little serving of whatever cheese they have that day. We had a standing appointment with the bartender come 6pm! It was a nice little touch that kept us at the hotel when we otherwise might have looked for a nearby bar instead.
There were a few pretty, powder blue scooters parked at the entrance for guest use and in the carpark outside, some smart cars. I believe you get a complimentary car from the hotel when you book a suite.
For some reason, I thought it would be a good idea to book us a 6am return flight back to Newcastle. We came down to reception bleary-eyed and the friendly guy on night shift made us coffees, while a few blokes stared into their last drinks of the night at the next table.

I’m not sure this hotel would be suitable for family holidays but it was perfect for our mum and daughter getaway and I also think it would be a good choice for couples. There was a big group of golfers there during our stay – OD Port Portals is near to two courses. We thoroughly enjoyed our mini break and would definitely recommend the hotel!
As mentioned at the beginning of the post, I was hosted by OD Port Portals for two nights and paid a press rate for our third night in Mallorca. Opinions are – as always – my own.
