Have you ever been to Madame Tussauds? I hadn’t, so when I was invited to review Madame Tussauds Blackpool I jumped at the chance.
It was my first ever visit to Blackpool, and I kind of loved it! There’s something about quintessentially British seaside towns that fills me with nostalgia and childlike excitement. The promenade and piers were packed with people and the unmistakeable scent of hot dogs and candy floss filled the warm air on the day we visited, taking me back to summers as a child.
If you’re visiting Blackpool over the summer holidays, whether as a family or, like us, a couple, I’d definitely recommend a visit to Madame Tussauds. It’s a great rainy day activity in Blackpool for all the family and honestly, such a laugh. I went expecting to take a few funny pictures with famous people, but I was surprised to find that Madame Taussauds offers more than that.
My review of Madame Tussauds Blackpool
I always thought of Madame Tussauds as a kids’ attraction, but Tom and I had an absolute blast when we spent the afternoon there. We laughed the whole way around, trying to outdo each other with silly poses with the wax figures.
We were immediately greeted with Cheryl Tweedy, which unnerved me a little until I got used to how lifelike the wax figures are, then we proceeded onto the Strictly Come Dancing set. They have real outfits worn during the show and it feels like you’ve just walked onto the show’s stage!
I was very impressed with the sheer amount and variety of famous faces: they’ve got British TV stars, sport legends (Tom enjoyed that more than I did, but I did think the darts player was scarily realistic), pop royalty, Corrie cast members, Doctor Who and MARVEL SUPER HEROES in wax form.
I loved how interactive and immersive the whole experience is, and that’s what makes Madame Tussaud’s Blackpool a great day out for any age group.
There’s a climbing wall, a football game, a laser maze and a mirror maze, with loads of fun photo opportunities as you make your way through the different scenes.
As you can see, we had fun mimicking the figures’ poses and expressions.
We may have taken things a bit too far in some instances…
It’s worth noting that while it was busy the day of our visit, we never had to wait to take our turn posing with the figures. I’m not sure if they stagger entry but it was definitely a relief not to have to fight the crowds!
There are staff positioned at intervals around the exhibition and they were all really friendly and polite.
Can you guess who everyone is? I didn’t struggle with any of them (aside from a few athletes, because I don’t know who they are in real life).
The Coronation Street area was probably my favourite bit of Madame Tussauds Blackpool.
The Coronation Street section consists of a replica Rovers Return, with Dierdre sat in the corner, Ken at the bar and Kym Marsh spitting out, ‘Ya barred!”
You can order a real (not wax) drink at the bar – they have milkshakes and all sorts for kids, plus a variety of snacks. It was a bit surreal to sip a G&T in The Rovers! The prices there are pretty reasonable, too.
Festival Fields is also really fun and realistic. You can even pose in a giant 8ft welly!
There are loads of other music heroes too, like Ariana Grande, Britney, Freddie Mercury and Justin Timberlake.
The newest arrival at Madame Tussauds Blackpool is the MARVEL SUPER HEROES area which includes wax figures of the Incredible Hulk, Thor, Spiderman, Rocket, Ironman and the newest arrival, Captain Marvel. It’s like stepping into a comic book!
This interactive area gives you the opportunity to test your strength against Hulk, lift Thor’s hammer and stand alongside the powerful Captain Marvel.
While the website says that most visitors spend 90 minutes touring the wax figures, we spent much longer there (partly because we took a picture with every single figure and stopped for a G&T in The Rovers). It’s a lot bigger and there are more themed areas than I ever imagined there would be, so it’s worth the money.
I found the part towards the end, which showcases the life of Madame Tussaud herself, s interesting. There was also a video playing where Alan Carr explains the process that goes into creating the wax figures, which is very informative.
In short, I loved our visit to Madame Tussauds Blackpool and think it’s a brilliant family friendly day out. Tom and I have made a pact to head to Blackpool for a day out every summer and said that if we ever have kids (eww), we’d definitely take them to Madame Tusssauds on a trip to Blackpool.
I’ll leave you with this pic of me staring at David Attenborough with adoration in my eyes…
You can buy Madame Tussauds Blackpool tickets online from £27 (adult price). There are also options to buy combination tickets for more Blackpool attractions, which is ideally if you’re going to be there for more than a day.
