Being a travel blogger is often considered one of the best jobs in the world and having been blogging full-time for almost three years, I tend to agree. Like any job though, it does have its drawbacks. For me, one of the downsides of travel blogging is the fact that I never let myself relax and enjoy a proper holiday.
I feel guilty for lazing poolside at a resort or dancing all night with a beer in my hand in another country, because I should be WORKING. Usually, when I’m on a trip I spend most of my time taking notes, chasing that perfect Instagram shot (yawn) and ‘discovering ‘hidden gems’. Like let’s not kid ourselves, when does anyone ‘discover’ anything these days, what with the internet spilling secrets of the previously unknown and exotic?
Last week though, I treated myself to a proper holiday. Five nights in Ibiza with my fiancé, where I didn’t research the most photogenic locations or the current best local haunts. I allowed myself to go somewhere without the aim of creating a travel guide for the destination. It was SO refreshing and I’ve come back feeling revitalised (but ever so slightly guilty that I wasted what could have been a productive trip). Usually, I come back from a trip stressed about all the work I’ve got to do to get my posts about the place live.
I wasn’t planning to share anything at all about our holiday here, but a few people expressed an interest over on Instagram. With no substantial ‘do this not that’ information to impart about Ibiza, I thought I’d just share a few holiday snaps and a little about what we did with our time – which was, blissfully, very little. It’s going to be a bit like one of those travel posts that fashion bloggers share!
Five nights in Ibiza: What we did and what I wore
I’ll be honest: part of the reason I chose Ibiza was that I’ve been freaking out about the fact I’m a proper grown up who is getting married now. I keep catching myself lamenting all the things I’ve told myself I can’t do because I’m OLD. Ridiculous? Yes. Stressing me out anyway? Yes. At one point in my teens, I wanted to ‘do a season’ in Ibiza but none of my mates would go with me. Looking back, I’m glad. But still, now I’m TOO OLD. Devastated. I know there will be people reading this thinking, ‘shut up, you’re still a baby’, but the mind thinks the way it thinks, doesn’t it? I’ll never not be furious I’m no longer 19.
I pitched Ibiza to Tom as a bit of a blow-out holiday before the wedding next year. Luckily, he was down for it.
We stayed at FERGUS Styles Bahamas, which I’d definitely recommend. Its shared areas have a boho Caribbean theme that I loved. I had been looking at much cheaper options while I was holiday shopping but at the last minute, I went with my gut and paid extra for a more aesthetically pleasing hotel (I guess that’s the photographer in me coming through). Of course, I checked the reviews for this place first and they were uniformly excellent. I’m glad I bit the bullet!
Bahamas is located in Playa d’en Bossa near Ushuaia and Hï Ibiza. We could literally stumble there and back, which was handy because it meant no taxi queues. The area was perfect for going to those two venues but if I were to go back to Ibiza, I would stay in a different area. The strip in PDB is expensive for food and drink compared to the likes of San Antonio, which surprised me. There’s a decent hippy market at one end though and it isn’t full of teenagers, so that was a plus!
If you’re ever looking for a decent meal on the Playa d’en Bossa strip, I can recommend Restaurante Moorea. I had a beautiful grilled seabass there and Tom had steak. No pictures I’m afraid!
We also walked along the coast to Figueretas one day and had a leisurely tapas lunch by the sea. It was one of the loveliest moments of the trip, gazing out to sea with a table covered in food before us and a glass each of cava sangria in hand.
We had two club nights and three more chilled, low-key evenings. I’m definitely too old to go big every night now!
Our two ‘big’ nights were both at Hi Ibiza. I love that place! If you can’t be arsed with the club scene, this place offers a happy medium because there’s a big garden area where everyone just lounges around. We alternated between dancing and chilling. Because we’re old.
Sunset at Mambos or Cafe del Mar is a bit of an Ibiza must, but we couldn’t get a reservation (see, I was a bad travel blogger and failed to plan ahead!). Instead, we sat on the rocks underneath the bars with a few beers bought from the shop and watched the sun go down there. Cheaper and honestly, probably more enjoyable!
On our final day on the island, we walked the 45 minutes or so from Playa d’en Bossa to Ibiza Town. It’s beautiful there, with so many charming ancient streets to wander.
We stretched our legs walking up to the citadel, Dalt Vila’s Renaissance defensive wall for views over the bay.
There are loads of unique boutiques and more recognised shops in the New Town, but I couldn’t convince Tom to squeeze any shopping into our day.
On the way back to our hotel, we caught the bus and it was only two euro each. Much cheaper than taxis!
How to get to Ibiza
We flew direct from Newcastle with Jet2, who I always try to fly with because you get a great luggage allowance. The holiday itself was a Jet2 Holiday. I’ve previously been on press trips with them to Costa del Sol and Tenerife, and I’m very loyal to the airline now!
If you’re in Spain, you can book tickets from Barcelona to Ibiza here.
Where to stay in Ibiza
We were both really pleased with my choice of hotel. If you want to go all-inclusive in Ibiza, I think FERGUS Styles is a great option. It’s only a four minute drive from the airport which is perfect for people (like my future husband) who hate long transfers. Obviously, you do hear the planes taking off but it honestly didn’t bother us one bit. In fact, the overhead display punctured our lazy days at the pool quite nicely!
We discussed doing another few nights in Ibiza one day and agreed that next time, we’d get a self-catered apartment so we had a bit more freedom and motivation to go out and about.
Booking.comHope you enjoyed this rather fluffy post about our Ibiza holiday! I usually write more in-depth travel guides, so forgive me for this look-at-my-clothes one. You can follow me on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter for more travel inspiration for the UK and beyond.

Ahh don’t definitely feel guilty for enjoying a holiday and in all honesty I really enjoyed reading this guide! Sometimes I think that the modern day world of blogging and Instagram has meant everyone’s become too obsessed with getting perfect photos and only going to places that are “instagrammable” – it’s worrying that we’ll never travel in a spontaneous way again! It must have been lovely to have a bit of down time and just enjoy exploring!
I quite fancy an old lady trip to Ibiza next year – definitely no clubbing at all for me but I’ve heard lovely things about Ibiza Old Town so would love to go and take a look!

Every travel blogger deserves a bit of downtime! Hopefully Brexit won’t impact travel to European destinations too drastically.
