I don’t often write beauty reviews, but I’ve recently discovered some amazing products that have helped to clear up my acne so I wanted to share them here. If you’re struggling with acne at the moment, my review of COSRX skincare products should help.
My skincare concerns are numerous and varied. I have combination skin that gets dry in the winter and my main focus when I shop for skincare is on products that deal with hyperpigmentation and healing acne scars, after my bout of adult acne a few years back.
I thought I’d outsmarted it, but the hormonal acne reared it’s (numerous, painful) ugly head(s) again towards the end of last year and I restarted my tireless testing of products that would cure it.
I’d been pretty happy with my evening skincare routine and the slightly quicker morning version up until that point, with a weekly at-home DIY facial for a proper treat. But the breakouts around my jawline and chin called for a serious deep-dive into active ingredients. Suddenly, I was learning the difference between AHAs and BHAs, retinoids and other active ingredients.
Around that time, I was sent some COSRX products to try. COSRX is a Korean skincare brand, so although it wasn’t familiar to me, I felt confident trialling them. If there’s one thing Korea does well (apart from those yummy bao buns), it’s skincare.
I’d pretty much given up hope that I’d find a miracle product for my acne, but COSRX surprised me and I know I’ll keep a handful of their products in my bathroom for the rest of my life.
The following COSRX products have changed my skin for the better.
1. COSRX Clear Fit Master Patch
£14.00 – available here
My review of COSRX Clear Fit Master Patch
I was sceptical about these patches, but now I wouldn’t be without them. They’re transparent so as long as you put them on properly, they’re pretty much invisible – especially since we’re all social distancing anyway.
I apply one of these directly on to a spot as soon as I feel one lurking. They work by absorbing sebum while fighting infection and bacteria by preventing them from spreading to other areas of your skin.
I have an awful habit of touching my face, especially if I have a breakout I’m self conscious about, so these have become vital for me.
I typically wear each patch for around eight hours, or until it starts to look white because that means the sebum has been absorbed.
In addition to the COSRX Clear Fit Master Patch, you can also buy a 24 pack of Cosrx Acne Pimple Master Patches, which are more suitable for nighttime and they come in different sizes. I use both.
2. Salicylic Acid Daily Gentle Cleanser
£14.00 – available here
My review of COSRX Salicylic Acid Daily Gentle Cleanser
I’ve been devoted to my trusty Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish for years, but the reemergence of the acne made me step outside my comfort zone with cleansers. I still use an oil cleanser to remove my make-up, but then I go in with this gentle cleanser.
I use it morning and night and a little goes a very long way – less than a pea sized amount produces a lovely rich lather. It contains Tea Tree Oil, Willow Bark Water and 0.5% Salicylic Acid to gently exfoliate skin and tackle breakouts.
I was a bit worried about this product stripping the oils from my skin but as long as I focus mainly on my oilier areas while I’m working it into my skin and follow up with a good moisturiser, I’ve had no redness or irritation.
If you have blemish-prone skin, I can’t recommend COSRX Salicylic Acid Daily Gentle Cleanser enough.
3. AHA 7 Whitehead Power Liquid
£22.00 – available here
My review of COSRX AHA 7 Whitehead Power Liquid
Okay, this product’s name sounds a bit scary and it is something you have to approach with caution, but I’m thrilled with the results!
The bottle says to slowly introduce this product to your skincare routine, especially if you have sensitive skin. I started using it once a week and worked my way up to three times a week.
I’ve since dropped back down to once a week because my skin doesn’t need it as much now my breakouts have cleared up.
A ‘renewing, resurfacing treatment dedicated to improving skin tone and texture’, this stuff really stepped up my skincare game. I use it after cleansing and before moisturising in place of a toner.
Keep in mind that the COSRX AHA 7 Whitehead Power Liquid contains 7% Glycolic Acid which is an AHA, so you shouldn’t mix it with other active ingredients.
4. Ultimate Moisturizing Honey Overnight Mask
£23.00 – available here
My review of COSRX Ultimate Moisturizing Honey Overnight Mask
The colour (but thankfully not the texture) of honey, this lightweight mask soothes skin after I’ve used the more heavyweight ingredients in my regime.
I like to apply this early in the evening because it gives my complexion that gorgeous ‘glass-like’ quality that Korean skincare is famous for. That’s because it’s enriched with propolis extract, a natural antibacterial and anti-inflammatory ingredient that I’ve only recently discovered but am now obsessed with.
You can even apply a thin layer of the COSRX Honey Overnight Mask as a moisturiser in the morning, or as a wash-off mask.
I’ve had zero irritation with this overnight mask and simply wash it off with cold water in the morning. It’s a lovely treat for your skin!
Have you tried any COSRX skincare products? Is there anything else in their range that I need to try and review? Let me know!
