Located on the South Central Coast of Vietnam, Nah Trang is a bustling city with high rises and a multitude of seafood restaurants, but meander through the landscaped sculpture gardens and you will discover why Nha Trang is the country’s beach capital.
Getting from Mui Ne to Nha Trang
From Mui Ne we jumped on an overcrowded sleeper bus. The journey took seven hours, we didn’t have seats for the first part, the driver smoked the entire time, the streets were flooded so our rucksacks got wet again, I hadn’t eaten and the driver only stopped once: to eat some noodles outside his friends’ house. There was nowhere for us to buy food or even pee.
We arrived at the True Friends Guest House near Tran Phu and hurried to an Italian restaurant called Carlos’ where we inhaled a pizza. Proper Western food in the East – heaven.
Things to do in Nha Trang
Mud bath trips were on offer, plus a boat trip to Monkey Island. There are some really pretty waterfalls you can visit in Nha Trang, too.
Escape from the city with a walk along the promenade then go to the 6km beach – Nha Trang is Vietnam’s beach capital! I nestled onto the sand with a book and gazed out at the little islands on the horizon.
Cable cars cross over to Hòn Tre island and the Vinpearl Resort, which has a golf course, water park and fairground.
At the end of the promenade, cross the road before the highway and you will find a traditional fishing village between the old and new bridge.
On the way back to the hotel, bought water from a petite Vietnamese girl on the street, who pointed at my chest and said, “Ooh! You give me surgeon’s number?” This was the second time my cleavage had been the object of ridicule.
Nightlife in Nha Trang is buzzing but we were tired out, and went on a quest for Tetleys tea and a bar of Dairy Milk. We ended up with Vietnam’s answer: Lipton and a bowl of ‘tomato soup’ that smelt and tasted like two-day old mashed potato blended with water and ketchup.
Have you ever had a massive craving for British foods on the road?
Next stop Hanoi!
